About this scholarship

Washington State residents enrolled full-time in a bachelor's or certificate program focused on emergency management at an accredited college or university may apply. Criminal justice, homeland security, public health, and other general public safety curricula are not eligible.

Three scholarships of $2,250 each are awarded and paid directly to the recipient's school.

Submit the complete application with two recommendations and academic history by email to president@wsema.org between May 1 and August 1. Recipients are notified by August 31.

  • Completed and signed application submitted by email
  • Two letters of recommendation: one from a college/university faculty member, or a high-school teacher/counselor for an incoming freshman; the other from a non-parent/non-relative
  • Current transcript or academic history verifying enrollment and good standing
  • One 1,250-word essay: "How do you foresee using your Emergency Management degree?"
  • Responses describing educational and career goals and interest/engagement in emergency management
  • Two (2) Letters of Recommendation: one must be from a college/university faculty member (or High School teacher/counselor if incoming Freshman); one from an individual other than a parent or relative
  • Current transcript / academic history verifying enrollment and good standing
  • Must be a Washington State resident enrolled full-time in a baccalaureate or certificate program at an accredited college/university (advanced/doctoral MA/MS/PhD NOT eligible)
  • Completed and signed application form, submitted as a zip via email to President@WSEMA.org by August 1st
  • Advanced/doctoral MA, MS, and PhD programs are not eligible.
  • Three $2,250 scholarships are awarded and paid directly to the recipient's school.
