Admitted UNC first-year students who apply and submit a FAFSA by the Early Action or Regular Decision deadline are considered for the James M. Johnston Scholarship based on outstanding academic achievement and demonstrated financial need. No additional scholarship application materials are required beyond admission and the FAFSA.
Awards can cover up to the full cost of attendance, including tuition, fees, housing, meals, and textbooks, for four years, along with a $2,500 stipend for research or study abroad. Award amounts vary. Johnston Scholars are invited to join the UNC Scholars Program.
