Outstanding international students entering UBC Okanagan directly from secondary school, or transferring from another post-secondary institution into an undergraduate program, may be considered for this award. Recipients would otherwise be financially unable to pursue post-secondary education, and consideration is restricted to students nominated by the educational institution they attend. Candidates are nominated by their school through UBC's International Scholars Program.
Awards range from $14,000 to $34,000 depending on the applicant's financial circumstances, with the range reviewed annually against changes in international student tuition and cost of living. Awards are renewable for up to three additional years of undergraduate study or to degree completion, whichever is less, provided the recipient stands in the top quartile of their program and maintains status on a Canadian study permit. Academic progress and financial need are reviewed annually.
In addition to academic merit, selection considers leadership skills, involvement in student affairs or community service, and recognized achievement in areas such as performing arts, athletics, debating, creative writing, or math and science competitions.
The UBC Okanagan International Leaders of Tomorrow Award (Start Up) awards $14,000–$34,000.
