Alberta residents who are Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or protected persons may apply. Visa students are not eligible. You must be enrolled full-time in a graduate program at an institution outside Alberta for both fall and winter terms in the current academic year.
Up to 15 awards are available each year: seven master's scholarships of $15,000 and eight doctoral scholarships of $20,000. Doctoral students who have not previously completed one year of graduate studies are only eligible for $15,000.
The award honours Calgary lawyer, parliamentarian, and senator Sir James Lougheed and supports Alberta graduate students studying outside the province, anywhere in the world.
