About this scholarship
Judge A.C. Bakken established the Shirley A. Bakken Scholarship in memory of his wife to reflect their North Dakota family farm origins and support for UND Law School. The award goes annually to a law student who lived and worked on a family farm in North Dakota from childhood through age eighteen. The scholarship honors Shirley Bakken's devoted support during her husband's legal education and judicial career. Recipients are selected by the School of Law from applicants in the UND law scholarship databank who meet the rural farm upbringing criterion.
