About this scholarship
Current high school seniors who live in Detroit and attend a Detroit Public Schools Community District high school or a charter school within the city may apply. The program targets students with at least a 2.25 GPA who demonstrate leadership and community service beyond academics.
Fifteen $25,000 scholarship awards are presented by the Michigan Chronicle and TCF Bank.
Apply through the S.W.A.G. (Students Wired for Achievement and Greatness) Scholarship program. Recipients are recognized in the spring, with grant distribution in the fall or winter of the upcoming school year.

What else to submit
- One letter of recommendation from a school, community organization, or its partner
- Current semester-ending report card showing cumulative GPA
- Completed online registration with personal, address, and high-school information
- 350–500 word essay on future career and community goals and how extracurricular activity/community service prepares the applicant for success
- One (1) Letter of Recommendation highlighting integrity, community involvement and service efforts (must come from a school or community organization or a partner of one)
- Current semester-ending report card reflecting cumulative GPA
- Completed online registration (birth date, email, name, address, phone, high school name/address/phone)
- Eligibility: minority individuals age 16+, legal residents of Detroit, MI, enrolled full-time in grade 12 at a Detroit Public Schools Community District school or Detroit charter school, GPA between 2
