IATE awards one $500 scholarship annually to a minority Illinois junior or senior enrolled in a public, recognized teacher-education program with a major in English, English Education, or Elementary Education with a language-arts specialty who plans to teach in Illinois.
Faculty nominations include a writing sample, an essay on teaching literature by a person of color, and a recommendation. Applications are accepted May through September.
