The prize is $1,700, endowed in memory of Professor Jean Laponce by friends and family. The award is made on the recommendation of the Department of Political Science. There is no separate student application.
Professor Emeritus Jean Laponce joined UBC in 1956 as the university's first full-time political scientist. He directed the political science honours program and received an honorary LL.D. from UBC in recognition of his long service.
