About this scholarship
High school students in grades 9 through 12 across the United States who demonstrate leadership advancing racial equity or promoting racial understanding through volunteer action may apply.
Winners receive $2,500 and are invited to present their work at the Symposium on Race at Princeton University, networking with fellow recipients, Princeton students, alumni, and faculty. More than 25 awards are granted across U.S. regions.
Complete a two-part online application: a student submission with written responses about your racial equity project, plus an unrelated adult sponsor who witnessed the work. Print applications are not accepted.
The Princeton Prize in Race Relations recognizes students committed to racial justice through community involvement.

- Must be currently enrolled in grades 9-12 in the United States
- Two-part application: Part I completed by the candidate, Part II (a recommendation) completed by a sponsor/supporter who is a teacher, adviser/counselor, community or religious leader, or other adult
- Applicant selects their single most significant racial-equity activity to write about (a second activity may be submitted on a separate application)
- Multiple-choice fields: how long involved in the activity (Less than 1 year / 1-2 years / More than 2 years); how you heard about the prize; type of high school
- Optional supplementary materials permitted but not required: videos, photos, or links/URLs to social or other media or a website
- Must be submitted online by the deadline (application states January 31; 2025-26 cycle deadline listed as January 15, 2026)
- May need to provide a U.S. taxpayer identification number to collect the cash award
- Award: $2,500
- Applicant selects their single most significant racial-equity activity; a second activity may be submitted separately.

- A U.S. taxpayer identification number may be needed to receive the cash award.
