Graduate students in Forestry at UBC Vancouver are eligible for this scholarship, with preference for a student pursuing studies in forest policy. The $3,100 award was endowed by friends, family and colleagues in memory of Peter Nelson Affleck (1951-2006), B.S.F. 1975.
There is no separate application. The scholarship is made on the recommendation of the Faculty of Forestry in consultation with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies.
Known across Canada as a leader and advocate for forestry, Peter worked for MacMillan Bloedel and as an independent consultant before representing the industry through advocacy groups, serving as Vice-President of the Interior Lumber Manufacturers Association and Vice-President of Forestry with the Council of Forest Industries of B.C.
