Third- and fourth-year undergraduate and graduate UBC Vancouver Faculty of Science students with outstanding academic achievement who are from communities historically, persistently, and systemically discriminated against may be considered. Preference is given to students studying geology or geological sciences.
Awards of at least $5,000 each, totalling $10,000 annually, are funded through a gift from Pan American Silver.
Recipients are selected on the recommendation of the Faculty of Science, and for graduate students in consultation with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. There is no separate student application.
Pan American Silver is a Vancouver-based mining company that established this award after taking the BlackNorth Initiative CEO Pledge to combat anti-Black systematic racism and promote diversity and inclusion.
