About this scholarship

Illinois residents of Italian parentage who were orphans or raised in foster homes may apply for a one-time merit scholarship for music or education study. Awards of up to $6,500 are available. Preference goes to music majors beyond freshman year and to applicants who were orphaned.

Submit a complete Joint Civic Committee of Italian Americans application as one PDF to jcc@jccia.com between June 1 and November 1. Selection weighs academic achievement, talent, leadership, and commitment to the Italian-American community.

  • Complete Joint Civic Committee of Italian Americans application submitted as one PDF
  • Essay of 500 words or fewer
  • Current high-school or college transcript
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Current photo
  • YouTube link to a musical performance if applicable
  • Persons of Italian parentage (parent or grandparent of Italian descent) and residents of the State of Illinois
  • Preference given to those orphaned or raised in a foster home
  • Music or education major preferred (other majors considered, music prioritized)
  • Enrolled in an accredited institution of higher education with at least one year of college coursework completed
  • Provide a current high school or college transcript
  • Two letters of recommendation (from foster/adoptive parents, social workers, home advisors, guidance counselors, etc.)
  • Include a current photo of yourself
  • Link to a YouTube video of a musical performance (if applicable)
  • Submit all materials electronically to jcc@jccia.com as one complete single PDF file between June 1 and the November 1 deadline
  • Award amount up to $6,500 (one-time, non-renewable; may reapply annually)
  • Selection considers academic achievement, talent, leadership, and commitment to the Italian-American community.
