About this scholarship
US citizens or permanent residents who have completed undergraduate study may apply for research or creative-arts projects in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sápmi, Sweden, Greenland, or the Faroe Islands. Graduate students conducting dissertation research receive priority; postdoctoral academic professionals are also eligible.
Year-long awards carry up to $23,000 and short-term (one to three months) awards up to $5,000 toward project costs including airfare, room and board, in-country travel, tuition where applicable, and materials. Awards do not cover beginning language study, performances, or institutional overhead.
Apply through the ASF online portal by 1 November; decisions are announced around 15 April. Projects should not begin before 15 April. Three recommendation letters and a host-institution affiliation confirmation are required.
