About this scholarship

Children and surviving spouses of New Jersey firefighters, emergency service workers, or law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty may receive Survivor Tuition Benefits Program (STB) support toward a bachelor's degree at approved New Jersey institutions. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, eligible non-citizens, or eligible to file the NJ Alternative Financial Aid Application, enroll at least half-time in an undergraduate program, and maintain satisfactory academic progress.

The program provides free tuition at public New Jersey institutions of higher education and covers enrollment at participating independent institutions. Award amounts vary by institution and enrollment. Offered twice a year.

Apply through HESAA with the NJ Alternative Financial Aid Application or FAFSA, submit proof of the line-of-duty death, and enroll at an approved New Jersey institution.

The program honors New Jersey public safety officers by supporting educational opportunities for their families.
