Open to an undergraduate or graduate student in the UBC Vancouver Department of Theatre and Film who shows exceptional aptitude for Shakespeare or advancement of Shakespearean research.
The scholarship is $2,000, offered annually by Julie Stockton in memory of her husband, Professor Emeritus Neil Freeman. The award is made on the recommendation of the Department of Theatre and Film; for graduate students, selection is in consultation with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. There is no separate student application.
Professor Freeman taught in the department from 1991 to 2006 and was renowned for helping young actors unlock Shakespearean text. His research into the First Folio changed how thousands of actors approach Shakespeare worldwide.
The Neil Freeman Memorial Scholarship awards $2,000.
