About this scholarship

First Nations Development Institute awards 20 to 25 scholarships of $1,000 to $1,500 each year to Native American, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian college students majoring in agriculture and agriculture-related fields, including agribusiness, agronomy, animal husbandry, environmental studies, fisheries and wildlife, food science, horticulture, and sustainable food systems.

Applicants must be full-time or part-time undergraduate or graduate students majoring in an agriculture-related field or able to show how their degree relates to Native food systems, be tribally affiliated with documentation, hold at least a 2.75 GPA, and demonstrate a commitment to helping their community reclaim local food-system control.

The online application for the 2026-2027 school year opened May 19, 2026 and closed June 16, 2026 at 5 p.m. Mountain Time; the scholarship runs annually.
