A limited number of non-Michigan-resident National Merit finalists who name Michigan State University as their first-choice institution may receive the Merit Recognition Scholarship.
The award is $4,000 annually plus room and board (double occupancy in an MSU residence hall and silver meal plan). Students with sophomore standing or higher who have lived at least one year in an MSU residence hall may live in an on-campus apartment and still receive the residence-hall double-occupancy award plus the silver meal plan, based on space and class standing. Off-campus housing is not included. The award is renewable for eight semesters.
