Undergraduate students entering their first year in the Faculty of Arts at UBC Vancouver are eligible for this entrance award. It supports academically qualified students with demonstrated leadership skills and an interest in joining and contributing to the UBC community who would not be able to attend UBC without significant financial assistance.
Two awards of $11,000 are offered, renewable for up to three additional years or until the first undergraduate degree is obtained, whichever is shorter, subject to continued eligibility.
Candidates must be nominated by their secondary school; recipients are selected on the recommendation of the Enrolment Services Entrance Award selection committee. Recipients are expected to uphold values of respect and tolerance for all persons for the duration of the award.
The awards were endowed by James Meekison, with the donor's contribution matched in part by the Faculty of Arts.
