About this scholarship

Current or newly admitted full-time Simon Fraser University students in good academic standing may receive this $1,500 award for demonstrated community service and leadership. One award is given, typically recognized in the fall term at Gandhi Jayanti.

Voluntary service can include health and caring work, literacy and training, peer support, peace and social justice initiatives, community building, anti-violence or anti-poverty programs, and related human-rights work. Apply with a one-page description of volunteer work, at least one reference letter from the host organization, and a resume of paid and volunteer experience. The Senate Undergraduate Awards Adjudication Committee decides based on nomination by the Institute of Humanities Gandhi Committee.
