Outstanding members of the UBC Thunderbirds women's ice hockey team at UBC Vancouver, in any year of study, are eligible for one or more awards ranging from a minimum of $500 each to the maximum allowable under athletic association regulations.
There is no student application; the awards are made on the recommendation of the Women's Ice Hockey Head Coach and the Athletics Awards Committee.
The awards were made available through gifts from alumni and supporters of the team in memory of Laura Kosakoski (1985-2020), a Thunderbird from 2003 to 2007 who went on to practice as a family physician in Canmore, Alberta. The award recognizes her resilience and work ethic both on and off the ice.
