About this scholarship
Open to outstanding First Nations, Inuit, or Métis students of Canada entering the UBC Vancouver Faculty of Arts directly from secondary school.
Scholarships totalling $5,000 have been endowed in memory of Associate Professor Emerita Katherine Brearley; the per-recipient amount varies. Recipients are selected on academic achievement, character, and leadership demonstrated through community contributions. Subject to continued scholarship standing, awards may be renewed for up to three additional years or until the first undergraduate degree is obtained, whichever is shorter.
There is no separate application; awards are made on the recommendation of the Faculty of Arts.
Katherine Brearley studied at UBC in the 1930s and returned as a faculty member for 30 years, serving as Assistant Dean of Women and later as the first Senior Faculty Advisor in the Faculty of Arts.
