Karen McKellin International Leader of Tomorrow Award (Start Up)

For outstanding international students entering UBC Vancouver as undergraduates directly from secondary school or transferring from another post-secondary institution, who would otherwise be financially unable to pursue post-secondary education. Consideration covers academic merit plus leadership, student affairs or community service, achievement in areas such as performing arts, athletics, debating or creative writing, and results on external math or science competitions. Only students nominated by the educational institution they are attending are considered.

Awards range from $14,000 to $34,000 depending on assessed financial need, and may renew for up to three additional years of undergraduate study or to degree completion, whichever is less, if the recipient stands in the top quartile of their program and maintains authorization to study in Canada. Award amounts are reviewed annually for academic progress and financial need.

Requires school nomination, a UBC admission application, financial documentation, and International Scholars Program materials.
