About this scholarship

For outstanding domestic undergraduate students entering UBC Vancouver directly from secondary school or transferring from another college or university in Canada or abroad who demonstrate financial need.

Renewable entrance awards come from an endowment established through an estate gift from Christina Murphy Allison in memory of her sister Josephine Murphy. Subject to continued academic standing, awards renew for up to three additional years or until the first undergraduate degree is completed.

Selection considers academic merit, leadership, community service, and extracurricular achievement. Awards are made on the recommendation of the Centennial Scholars Entrance Award Committee.

Josephine Murphy was born in Liverpool to an Irish family, immigrated to the United States in the 1930s, and spent the rest of her life in British Columbia.
