About this scholarship

Third- or fourth-year UBC Music undergraduates or graduate students in the School of Music pursuing music training or research outside Canada through a program of study approved by the School may be nominated.

The scholarship provides $7,250. It was established by Maurice Danby Copithorne (Q.C., LL.D. Honoris Causa, UBC), former Canadian Ambassador to Austria, and Tamako Yagai, the first Japanese exchange student to attend UBC, with matching funds from the School of Music. The award honours Joseph and Melitta Kandler's contributions to music and to fostering enduring ties between Canada and Austria.

Recipients are selected on the recommendation of the School of Music. There is no separate student application.
