About this scholarship
Open to an undergraduate or graduate student in the UBC Vancouver Department of Art History, Visual Art and Theory who demonstrates great promise and artistic ability in painting.
The prize is $3,400, funded through an endowment established by Hassell Construction Ltd. on behalf of Joan Wright Hassell's family. The award is made on the recommendation of the department; for graduate students, selection is in consultation with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. There is no separate student application.
Joan Hassell had a passion for painting in watercolour and oils. She spent much of her free time painting and often gifted her work to friends and loved ones.
