Eligibility
About this scholarship
California residents majoring in health, physical education, recreation, or dance at a California two- or four-year college, with at least 60 semester or 90 quarter units completed or in progress, a 3.0 or higher GPA, and CAHPERD membership for at least 30 days before the deadline may apply. The James Echols Scholarship goes to the highest-ranked minority applicant (Asian, African American, Latino, or Native American). Prior student recipients must wait one year before reapplying for a scholarship not previously awarded.
One of three $1,000 Future Professional Scholarships is given (alongside Van Hagen/Cassidy and John F. Kennedy awards).
Submit the application, three recommendations, and transcripts by November 1. Selection also weighs leadership and personal qualities.
