About this scholarship
A graduate student undertaking research relevant to growth and yield at a UBC research forest or in forested areas in the interior may receive this scholarship.
The award is $5,600 from Gilbert Smith Forest Products Ltd. of Barriere, B.C. If no qualified graduate student is available, the scholarship may be shared equally between two undergraduate students in the Forest Resources Management or Forest Operations programs. Preference is given to Canadian citizens or permanent residents.
Awards are made on Faculty recommendation and, for graduate students, in consultation with the Faculty of Graduate Studies. There is no separate student application.
The scholarship honors Dr. J. Harry G. Smith, a UBC Faculty of Forestry professor for forty years.
