About this scholarship
The Hutchison Scholarship proactively invites about thirty outstanding first-generation UT Austin freshmen each year to study abroad by offering a one-time four-thousand-dollar award upon admission. There is no separate application; recipients are identified during admission review. The program includes advising on academic credit, logistics, and study abroad planning through the International Office. It was expanded from a pilot to a permanent scholarship because it successfully reached first-generation students who might not otherwise consider international education. Scholars use the award toward approved study abroad programs, often during the summer after the freshman year.
