About this scholarship

Open to outstanding domestic UBC Vancouver undergraduate students entering directly from secondary school or transferring from another post-secondary institution who demonstrate financial need and would not be able to attend UBC without assistance.

Renewable entrance awards; amounts vary. Subject to continued good academic standing, awards renew for up to three additional years of study or until the first undergraduate degree is obtained, whichever comes first. Preference is given to students from single-parent families.

Requires the Centennial Scholars Entrance Award application. Awards are made on the recommendation of the Centennial Scholars Entrance Award Committee.

Gerald Weeks endowed the awards in memory of Henry (1893-1948) and Irene Ward (1917-2003). A Professor Emeritus in Microbiology and Immunology at UBC, he grew up in a single-parent family in England with his mother Irene and grandfather Henry, who instilled in him the importance of education and social justice.
