About this scholarship

U.S. citizen high school seniors planning careers in local, state, or federal government service may apply for Washington Crossing Foundation national and regional scholarships.

Twenty-four awards ranging up to $10,000 are granted. Applicants submit three collated dossiers, each with a one-page essay of no more than 300 words on their government-service career plans and George Washington's Delaware crossing, a principal or counselor recommendation, transcripts, and test scores.

Applications must be postmarked by the deadline; winners attend the awards ceremony in Pennsylvania. The foundation honors George Washington and supports students committed to public service careers.

  • Three collated paper dossiers
  • One-page typewritten, double-spaced essay of no more than 300 words
  • Three copies of a recommendation from a high school principal or guidance counselor
  • Three copies of high school transcripts and national test scores
  • Three copies of a resume documenting honors, awards, activities, and supporting documentation
  • Essay must be typewritten in not less than 12 point type, double-spaced, on a single page
  • Three (3) copies of the essay required
  • Three copies of a letter of recommendation from high school principal or guidance counselor
  • Three copies of high school transcripts plus national testing scores (SAT, ACT, etc.)
  • Three copies of a resume documenting honors, awards, activities, and supporting documentation
  • Materials must be assembled into three complete collated dossiers and mailed (paper application)
  • Essay must address the applicant's government-service career plans and inspiration from George Washington's Delaware crossing.
  • Winners attend the awards ceremony in Pennsylvania.
