About this scholarship

Open to an outstanding undergraduate student in any faculty at Simon Fraser University who completed a Bachelor's degree during the preceding Summer, Fall, or Spring term. Candidates must have high academic standing over six terms or the equivalent of 60 credit units or more at SFU, plus extracurricular participation showing outstanding character and devotion to the university.

The award is the Gordon M. Shrum Gold Medal. One medal is granted.

Faculty undergraduate Deans nominate candidates. Nominations must include a one-page personal statement, current resume or CV, and one reference letter. The Senate Undergraduate Awards Adjudication Committee selects the recipient.

  • Cumulative GPA in the top five percent of the graduating class / high scholastic standing
  • Outstanding extracurricular involvement and demonstrated qualities of character and devotion to the university
  • No student application: recipients are nominated by the university community and selected by the registrar
  • Candidates are nominated by Faculty undergraduate Deans.
  • Recipient is selected by the Senate Undergraduate Awards Adjudication Committee.
