George McWhirter Prize in Poetry

Undergraduate students at UBC Vancouver who specialize in poetry in the Creative Writing program may receive this prize.

The prize is $2,850, endowed by colleagues, friends, and students in honour of George McWhirter's retirement and thirty-five years of teaching at UBC. McWhirter received the Sam Black Award for Education and Development in the Visual and Creative Arts and helped hundreds of young writers build their careers.

Recipients are chosen on the recommendation of the Creative Writing Program. No separate application is required.
