About this scholarship
Siblings of childhood cancer survivors, current patients, or patients who did not survive may apply for one of three Gabriela Blanco scholarships from Sofia's Hope. Applicants must have lived in the same household as the patient during treatment and be enrolled in or accepted to an accredited U.S. undergraduate or graduate program.
Each of the three awards provides $2,000 for tuition and/or room and board, plus a laptop or tablet. Funds are paid directly to the recipient's college or university.
Submit the full application with a physician's letter verifying the sibling's medical history, at least one academic recommendation, and a 500-word essay on how childhood cancer impacted your life and career goals.

- Enrolled in or accepted to an accredited undergraduate or graduate program in the U.S.
- Submit acceptance letter from college/university or letter of good standing from registrar
- Complete the scholarship application form
- Submit at least one (maximum three) letter of recommendation from an academic teacher on official school letterhead
- Submit a physician's letter on official letterhead verifying the medical history and current status of the cancer-patient sibling
- Submit shorter 'personality essays' in addition to the main essay (exact prompts and word limits provided inside the application portal, not published publicly)
- Sign release form permitting publication of name, photo, and success story
- Deadline: March 15, 2026
- Previous recipients are ineligible to reapply
- Funds are paid directly to the recipient's college or university.
