Open to outstanding members of the UBC Vancouver Thunderbirds men's football team in any year of study.
One or more awards are available, each with a minimum value of $500 up to the maximum allowable under athletic association regulations. Funding comes from UBC Football alumni in honour of Frank Smith.
There is no separate student application. Awards are made on the recommendation of the Athletics Awards Committee.
Frank Smith was Head Coach of UBC Football from 1974 to 1994, leading the team to two Vanier Cups and five Hardy Cup conference titles. He is a member of the Canadian Football Hall of Fame and the BC Sports Hall of Fame.
