Frank and Betty de Bruyn Memorial Essay Prize

Open to students with the best first-year essay in each of English 110, English 111, and English 112 at UBC Vancouver.

Three prizes of $250 each come from an endowment originally established in memory of Frank de Bruyn and later enhanced after the passing of his mother Betty in 2015. No separate application; awards are made on the recommendation of the Department of English.

Frank was 16 when he was killed in a climbing accident in the Coastal Range near Whistler.
