About this scholarship

Students in grades 7 through 12, including homeschooled students, may enter the FRA Americanism Essay Contest through a local FRA member or branch.

The grand national winner receives $1,500. Additional national prizes include $1,000, $750, and $500, with up to 18 national awards. Local and regional prizes may also be awarded.

Write a 350-word essay on the assigned Americanism topic and submit it through an FRA member or branch before the deadline. Local winners advance to regional and national competition.

  • Open to all students in grades 7 through 12 (or equivalent), including home-schooled students
  • Essay must be submitted through an FRA member, a local FRA branch, a Ladies Auxiliary unit, or an FRA Member-at-Large sponsor
  • Deadline: December 1 (December 1, 2025 for the 2025-2026 contest)
  • Local winners advance to regional competition; regional winners compete for national prizes
  • Grand national prize is $1,500; 18 national awards plus regional and local prizes
