UBC School of Music students may be nominated, with preference first for those studying clarinet and secondly for those studying other woodwind instruments.
The scholarship provides $1,000. It is offered by the Estate of Bethiah Caroline Weisgarber in memory of Elliot Weisgarber, UBC music professor from 1960 to 1984, well-known as a composer and as the founder of the School of Music's ethnomusicology program. The Weisgarbers were active members of the Vancouver classical music community for 40 years.
Recipients are selected on the recommendation of the School of Music and, for graduate students, in consultation with the Faculty of Graduate Studies. There is no separate student application.
