About this scholarship
Twenty-seven-hundred-fifty-dollar award for one Carnegie Mellon junior Communications Design student who demonstrated outside-the-box thinking on a design problem during the academic year. Named for 1968 CMU graphic design alumnus Edward Szylinski, the award recognizes courage to propose unexpected or unconventional solutions even when they do not fully succeed. Communications Design faculty nominate juniors; anonymous faculty voting selects the winner announced at the spring Design Awards program. No separate student application beyond faculty nomination of eligible juniors.
