About this scholarship

Named for Yale's first African American graduate and the first African American in the United States to earn a Ph.D., the Bouchet Fellowship supports rising juniors who intend to pursue doctoral study and academic careers. Fellows conduct paid research during the academic year and full-time research each summer between sophomore-junior and junior-senior years. The program welcomes all fields of study and candidates regardless of nationality or citizenship, with particular interest in students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, first-generation college backgrounds, or those who have overcome significant educational obstacles.
