About this scholarship
Open to Master's and Ph.D. students in the Faculty of Applied Science, Sauder School of Business, or Faculty of Science pursuing commercialization of new technology in physical sciences, life sciences, engineering, or business.
Individual fellowships are worth up to $20,000 per year, funded through an endowment established by Dr. Gerald Heffernan in memory of Dr. Frank Forward (Hon. D.Sc. 1965) and Dr. Gordon Forward (B.A.Sc. 1960, M.A.Sc. 1962, Hon. D.Sc. 1996). Recipients submit a commercialization plan, seek mentorship from academic engineers and/or research faculty, and set milestones. Conditional on satisfactory academic progress and milestone achievement, the fellowship may be renewed for an additional year.
Recipients are selected on the recommendation of the Faculty of Applied Science in conjunction with entrepreneurship@UBC and HATCH in consultation with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. There is no separate student application.
