About this scholarship
Graduate students entering a master's program in the UBC Vancouver Faculty of Arts who are studying Punjabi Studies and demonstrate financial need may be nominated for this award. Preference goes to domestic students.
Two renewable entrance awards of $10,000 per year (totalling $20,000) are funded by Barj S. Dhahan (B.A. 1983) and Rita Dhahan, along with matching funds from UBC, and may be renewed for one additional year with continued satisfactory academic progress.
There is no separate student application; the Department of Asian Studies makes recommendations in consultation with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies.
The award celebrates the preservation and promotion of Punjabi culture, language, and literature, extending the Dhahan Prize for Punjabi Literature and Luminaries program.
