Alabama high school seniors and first-time college freshmen who are U.S. citizens, Alabama residents, have at least a 2.75 GPA, demonstrated financial need, and plan to enroll at an eligible Alabama institution may apply.
One-time awards of up to $4,000 for four-year programs and $2,000 for two-year programs are granted on a semester basis during the first academic year. Four-year applicants must meet the program's ACT score limit; two-year applicants are exempt from the ACT requirement.
Complete the online application with required documents. The Alabama State Treasurer administers CollegeCounts to help make college more affordable for students with financial need.
The CollegeCounts Scholarship Program awards $4,000.
The deadline is February 28, 2027. Applications submitted after the deadline are typically not considered, so plan to finish early.
