California current or former foster youth who were wards of the court between ages 16 and 18 and have not reached age 26 by July 1 of the award year may apply for the California Chafee Grant.
Recipients must be enrolled at least half time at an eligible California or out-of-state college, university, or career/technical school and making satisfactory academic progress. Awards provide up to $4,500 based on available funding.
Submit a one-time Chafee application plus an annual FAFSA or California Dream Act Application by July 31. Participants may receive aid for up to five years total.
