Beginning and intermediate hardingfele students attending the HFAA annual Summer Workshop may apply. Applicants need prior bowed-string experience and the ability to learn by ear. HFAA membership is not required. Awardees must be over age 18 at the start of the workshop.

Unigo awards one $1,500 scholarship to a U.S. legal resident age 14 or older who is enrolled or will enroll in an accredited postsecondary program. Applicants submit a short original essay online through Unigo; no GPA or financial-need review. The winner is selected on writing quality and creativity. Prize is paid by check to the winner's accredited college, university, or trade school after proof of enrollment.

Full-time students during the grant period are ineligible, and you cannot receive a grant in consecutive state fiscal years. Awards typically range from $300 to $1,000 and cover up to half of cash expenses for time-sensitive professional development such as travel to exhibitions, advanced study with a mentor, freight, materials tied to a confirmed opportunity, or related costs. Tuition, workshop fees, meals, and lodging are not funded. Apply online through ASCA SmartSimple by quarterly deadlines on June 1, September 1, December 1, and March 1. Funded activity must occur between the first of the month after the award and June 30 of the state fiscal year. The Alaska State Council on the Arts administers this standing quarterly grant for individual artists and arts administrators.
