About this scholarship
Open to UBC Vancouver undergraduate students in the Faculty of Forestry attending an international Forestry Field School or the Haida Gwaii Semester program who demonstrate an interest in conflict resolution processes. Preference is given to students with financial need.
Two $5,000 awards are offered annually.
No separate student application. Awards are made on the recommendation of the Faculty of Forestry.
Charles Backman established the awards through a gift. The Backman family's links to the BC forestry industry go back to the early 1900s. Charles earned six university degrees and established this award to help students develop conflict resolution skills through exploring international and intercultural issues in forestry.
