About this scholarship
The Award for Excellence Scholarship is an automatic merit award for incoming Grand Valley State University freshmen with at least a 3.5 high school cumulative GPA who are admitted by March 1 for 2026-2027. Michigan residents receive $3,500 per year; non-Michigan residents receive $3,500 plus the out-of-state tuition differential. Recipients must enroll full time, maintain satisfactory academic progress, and may renew for three additional consecutive years for a total value of up to $14,000 for Michigan residents. The scholarship cannot be combined with Laker, Faculty, or Presidential scholarships. Final decisions are made by July 31.
