Dalhousie University undergraduates may compete for this prize with the best essay on Canadian literature submitted during the academic year.

One prize of $500 is awarded. Essays from any department qualify if they focus explicitly on a Canadian literary topic in English, not history or culture more generally.

Essays are nominated by instructors; there is no student application.
