About this scholarship

Enrolled members of American Indian, Alaska Native, or Native Hawaiian tribes pursuing healthcare degrees at accredited institutions may apply for the NSCDA American Indian Medical Scholarship.

Scholarships provide $1,500 per semester for up to eight semesters while recipients maintain good academic standing. Funds are restricted to tuition and specific academic expenses.

Applicants must plan careers serving Native communities, demonstrate financial need, and commit to working in those communities after graduation. New applications are due July 1 for fall and November 1 for spring.

  • Copy of Tribal membership certificate (including enrollment certification number)
  • GPA and full official transcripts for all completed undergraduate and graduate programs
  • 2 recommendation letters (new applicants only; from a previous teacher, counselor, or employer)
  • FAFSA student aid report including EFC number (if available)
  • Applicant photo (if available)
  • Completed application form with signature
  • Bursar/Finance office contact information for current institution
  • Essay addressing the applicant's decision to enter the medical field and how the degree will support future service in a Native American community.
  • Recipients must maintain good academic standing and commit to working in Native communities after graduation.
  • Renewal support is available for up to eight semesters while requirements are met.
