No essay requiredAlberta resident individual artists, arts administrators, or artist ensembles working in visual arts or new media may apply at any career stage, including emerging artists. Applicants must meet Alberta residency requirements and may submit only one AFA application per deadline across all disciplines. Grants provide up to $18,000 for a specific project in art production, marketing, research, or training and career development. Deadlines are September 1, 2026 and March 1, 2027 at 11:59 p.m. Mountain Time through the GATE Front Office system. First-time applicants need a GATE login at least five business days before the deadline. The Alberta Foundation for the Arts, a provincial public agency, supports individual project development across visual and new media practices.
