CSM Culture, Criticism and Curation writing sample
Applicants who meet the initial requirements may be asked for a short critical or creative piece through PebblePad. UAL accepts forms such as an earlier academic essay, arts review, or response to a social issue, with images if useful.
Writing format
UCAS personal statement, then invited 400–500-word critical or creative sample
What to prepare
- 1In the UCAS statement, explain your interest in cultural interpretation and the work that prepared you for the course.
- 2Choose a 400–500-word sample that shows a clear observation or argument about art, culture, or a social issue.
- 3If reusing an earlier essay or review, make sure the selected passage stands alone and fits the stated length.
How to approach the writing
- Let the writing itself demonstrate critical or creative judgment instead of describing those qualities in general terms.
- Add images only if they help the reader understand the point within the short sample.
Before you submit
The course page says 2027–28 applications will open in autumn 2026. Confirm the current brief and PebblePad invitation before submitting a previously written piece.
